What is your role at headspace?
My role is the Youth Engagement Project Officer, but basically
what i do at headspace is help to encourage young people to look
after themselves, and to look out for their mates. It's ok to not
be ok sometimes, but it's important to do something about it.
Whether it be going to the beach, listening to music or talking to
someone you trust. I'm very lucky because i get to do heaps of fun
stuff and hang with some very cool and inspirational young
people. I love that i get to know so many young people
in the Kimberley through some of the work that i do in
schools and in the community.
Where are you from?
I was born in Kalgoorlie Boulder and lived there until i
finnished school, then i took off to Perth to go to Uni which
was amazing. It was a challenge living so far from home but i
was really lucky to have some family and friends around me to
support me and get me through that transition. I loved being
able to be independant and do what i wanted to do.
Where have you been?
Well i've only ever lived in WA (Kalgoorlie, Perth and now
Broome), however i have been lucky enough to travel through Bali,
Borneo, Thailand & Papua New Guinea. i have
also got to see some of the most remote parts of the Kimberley
both in my role at headspace and when working for the True North,
which was amaaaazing! For me the Kimberley is a magical place and i
consider myself very lucky to be able to call it home. I hope to do
lots more travel in the future.
What have you studied / for how
long?
I have completed a Bachelor of Communications at Edith Cowan
University (3 years) and i am very close to finishing a
Graduate Diploma in Counselling at Notre Dame University which
was an additional year on top of my first degree.
What do tyou love about what you do / what are the
biggest challenges?
Where to start.... Well i love all the amazing people i get to
spend time with, especially all the young crew because
they always make me smile. its also great to be able to work with
some really strong, smart and supportive people. Biggest challenge
would be sometimes having to say no to things, which i dont like
doing, and also wanting to support young people throughout the
Kimberley but it's hard because it's such a BIG place.

trainee Camera Operator for about 18 months whilst along the wayhad
been also learning how to become an editor for television
commercials for training purposes and corporate agencies in
education and health departments. By 2007 - 2008 I joined a non
profit organisation called FORM. FORM is an art and culture
organisation that put together a project called the Caning Stock
Route, Back to Country. The ptoject has been a big success with the
opening at the national museum of Australia (NMA) in July 2010. In
2009 - 2010 I have now been known as an emerging film maker from
being a part of the Canning Stock Route Project and since have been
making short skits and writing my own scripts for short films.
What are your interests?
My interests are to help, support and share my experiences and
knowledge with youth. And to also let them know that there's a
whole world out there to experience and learn from and not be
afraid, and don't hold back, just share your talents and creativity
to gain confidence and know that there's a lot of support out
there.

I grew up in Gippsland (South East) Victoria and went to school

for the last 13 years and moved to Broome earlier this year to
escape the cool weather. I am loving the beaches, laid back
lifestyle and the beautiful boab trees of Broome.

I have been really lucky and got to go on a few adventures
overseas in the past ten years. i have been on some challenging
trips and one of my favourites was catching the Trans Mongolian
railway which is a train trip that begins in Russia, goes through
Mongolia and into Beijing in China. It was a really long journey.

the Kimberley.
What have you studied / for how

I studied a Bachelor in Social Work at Latrobe University
in Melbourne which took 4 years to complete.
What do you love about what you do / what's the
biggest challenge?
It is a real privelage to have young people share stories about
their lives and see them draw on their own strengths and be able to
get through tough times. I also love that young people tend to
"tell it how it is" and come with a lot of honesty. The biggest
challenge for me in this job is learning about a different way of
life in the Kimberley and being able to tap into the young people
who need a hand most.
