This page is all about studying at TAFE - information on what to do and when, the enrolment process, and succeeding with study while you're there.
Specifically, with regard to studying at TAFE on the
Southern Downs:
Step 1:
How to find information about certificates
and workshops at Warwick TAFE:
Your options are:
- Visit www.sqit.tafe.qld.gov.au
- Go to TAFE at 176-202 Dragon Street Warwick and pick up a
Program Guide
- Call 4660 4600 and ask to speak to the Career Counsellor
about what is available
- Check the local newspaper for advertisements about TAFE
courses.
Step 2:
How to choose what to study and
when:
Your options are:
- Call the Warwick TAFE on 4660 4600 and ask to have an
appointment with the teachers in the courses you are interested in;
OR
- Call the Warwick TAFE and ask for an appointment with the
Career Counsellor; OR
- Visit www.myfuture.edu.au
or www.jobguide.deewr.gov.au
to research some of your ideas or to complete a
quick career quiz.
Step 3:
Getting enrolled:
- Talk to your employment agency - sometimes
they can help with fees.
- Talk to Warwick TAFE about applying for a payment
plan so you do not need to pay all yours fees up front
(keep in mind that this is a loan and must be
repaid).
- Talk to the course teacher or the career counsellor
about the type of enrolment that suits you best -part time study,
full time study or workshop (e.g. 2 to 3 days).
Step 4:
Help with succeeding at
TAFE:
- Ask a teacher or career counsellor about learning support
if you have difficulty understanding or doing the work.
- If you get sick or other things in you life happen that
mean you miss classes, talk to the counsellor or teacher about how
you can catch up.
- Do a study plan so that you plan to
succeed - ask for help from a counsellor if you don't
know how to do this
- Ask your friends and family to support and encourage you
and keep you on track
