Film
Club
Here at headspace, we love movies. And we've
also had a bit of experience making them. So we thought we'd put
that love and skill together to deliver a program for young people
who share a love and interest in film and filmmaking. This is a 15
week program for all young people aged 12 to 25, and will involve
lots of watching, discussing, learning and making of films.

The first night of Film Club has come and gone, and those that
were there learnt a lot about the history of film and about the
different jobs in filmmaking.
The next Film Club night will be Monday May 14th @
530pm. We will begin continuing our exploration of
genres, focussing on horror and science fiction. If you would
like to attend this Film Club, please ensure you have watched a
horrow movie to participate in discussions.
We will also be working out our project idea for the following
week's film shoot. It will be a horror short film. Get those scary
ideas flowing!
You can watch the first offering from the group here.
Film Club - Monday May 14th @ 530pm. You will
love Film Club.
Rainbow
Youth Group
Young people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual,

between 15 and 25, and feel like discussing issues, having fun, and
doing something in the community, then come down to

health, which was informative and important. Many thanks to Natasha
Miller and Annette Heather from the North Ward Sexual Health Clinic
for their help and knowledge.
The next group meeting will be held on Tuesday
May 15th @ headspace headquarters, beginning at
530pm. We will be having a night of comedy with youtube

Youth Rainbow
Project Group
If you're between 12 and 25, and feel like sinking your teeth
into something productive and practical, then you should come to
our Youth Rainbow Project Group. No matter what your gender,
sexuality, race or species, headspace's Youth RPG
is a group for young people wanting to dream up and implement
events that are inclusive and fun for the young people of
Townsville.
The groups first project was the Rainbow Fair Day which happened
on April 28th at the Aitkenvale PCYC. It was a great day and the
group has done a stellar effort to make it happen.
The next group is Tuesday May 22nd @ headspace
headquarters from 530pm to 730pm. The group will be
seeking another idea to sink their teeth into, so we would love to
hear from you!
We hope to see you soon!
National Youth
Week 2012
headspace Townsville in collaboration with the
Townsville City Council and the Aitkenvale PCYC are pleased to be
supporting the Youth Rainbow Project Group in their efforts to hold
a Rainbow Fair Day for
National Youth Week 2012.
This project is a youth-led initiative focussing on raising
awareness about the issues that impact on GLBTQ young people in
Townsville. Specifically, the young people involved have identified
three main objectives:
1. To create a positive public perception towards GLBTQ young
people. This is in response to negative experiences the young
people have had from school and throughout the community. The group
is committed to an anti-bullying message being a major theme
for the Fair Day.
2. To raise awareness about GLBTQ and the issues that impact on
them. This is in response to identified perceptions in the
community that GLBTQ young people are somehow "different" and
"abnormal". This notion of exclusion creates a set of issues unique
to GLBTQ young people, with evidence showing that rates of mental
illness and self-harm are higher with GLBTQ young people than with
their heterosexual peers.
3. To use fun to bring people together. This is in response to
the fact that everyone in the Youth Rainbow Project Group is a
bright, fun-loving, and warm young person, who believe that we are
all capable of coming together and enjoying each other's company,
no matter what our sexuality, race, or religion.
The Rainbow Fair Day will take place on Saturday 28th
April at Aitkenvale PCYC, from 1pm to 5pm. The day will
feature activities, food, information, performances, and the
opportunity for young people to add their stories to an organic
narrative that will be formed by the young people of Townsville to
offer a glimpse into the shared experiences of GLBTQ young people
in Townsville.
Anyone wanting further information about the Rainbow Fair Day or
the Youth Rainbow Project Group, should get in contact with
headspace Townsville.
