Evidence maps now online

headspace’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) provides information on the latest research treatment interventions and models of care for young people with mental health and substance use issues.  This information is not only designed for researchers and professionals who work with young people, but members of the community who are interested in youth mental health.

One of the most recent additions to CoE’s online Knowledge Centre are the ‘Evidence maps’.  Evidence maps summarise whether or not evidence exists to support an intervention and help guide clinical management. The evidence maps help guide the clinical management of problems.

CoE are developing a range of evidence maps to ensure that young people with mental health problems receive treatment that is effective, causes few side effects, and ensures a quick and sustainable recovery.  The evidence maps for the treatment of depression and the treatment of psychosis, including information from systematic reviews, meta-analyses and randomised controlled trials is now available on the headspace website.  There are 275 relevant trials and systematic reviews on depression and 184 relevant trials and systematic reviews on psychosis.

The evidence maps for each disorder provide information on the best ways to prevent the onset of a disorder, to treat an established disorder or to prevent a relapse of the disorder and include evidence on psychological, biological and complementary and alternative interventions.
