Who we are looking for:

We have a number of opportunities for youth-friendly allied health practitioners to work as independent contractors within a cooperative, multi-disciplinary model of care, working closely with headspace colleagues and co-located service partners to maximise the services available to young people within our community. As an independent contractor, remuneration for these positions will be paid at a rate of 80% of the relevant MBS item fee per billed session.  Successful applicants must be currently registered with their relevant industry body and eligible to obtain a Medicare Provider Number. Additionally, applicants must hold or be eligible to hold personal and professional indemnity insurances and an ABN.

HEADSPACE PARRAMATTA is a youth friendly mental health service supporting young people and families in the Western Sydney region.

headspace is Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation. headspace aims to reduce the burden of disease in young people aged 12-25 years caused by mental health and related substance use disorders through early identification and effective, evidence-based intervention. headspace Parramatta delivers the Primary Care program which offers an “open door”, easily accessible, early intervention service for young people wishing to obtain support for mental health or substance use issues. The headspace Youth Early Psychosis Program (hYEPP) is a specialist service which focuses on providing comprehensive services to support young people who are at risk of developing a psychotic illness, or those who have experienced a first episode of psychosis.

headspace Parramatta is currently seeking a highly motivated and clinically skilled individual to cover a 6 month maternity leave Team Leader position. This role requires someone who is passionate about Youth Mental Health, and has a flair for engaging with Young People and their families.

The aims of the headspace Primary Care Team Leader position includes:

  • The facilitation of an accessible, evidence-based early intervention service to young people.
  • To reduce the duration of untreated mental health presentations in order to minimise the impact of a mental health presentation on the normal developmental trajectory of the young person
  • To minimise the subjective distress of young people and their families associated with the experience of a mental health presentation
  • To ensure that quality evidence-informed treatment and assessment services are available to young people, and that young people have access to all aspects of the headspace model where appropriate to achieve the best possible outcome.
  • To maximise continuity of care for young people accessing services available within headspace, by facilitating the communication and integration of service providers.

The successful applicant will become an integral part of the headspace leadership team, working alongside a team of highly skilled clinical and non-clinical, administrative, and medical staff to provide comprehensive, specialist and early intervention mental health services to young people aged 12-25 years.

 

Selection Criteria

Qualifications

Approved tertiary qualifications in the relevant discipline (see below) and eligibility for membership with AHPRA or the appropriate professional body

Registered Nurse

  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing or equivalent; Mental Health Nursing experience favourable or equivalent. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Occupational Therapist

  • Bachelor Degree of Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to practice with the National Board.

Psychologist

  • Registration as a psychologist under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009). Current membership or eligibility for membership with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Social Worker

  • Approved degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

 

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Substantial experience (minimum 3 years) and proven expertise in the application of evidence-based clinical practice within the area of youth mental health.
  2. Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving, and negotiation skills
  3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other professionals and to lead a multi-disciplinary team, as well as proven ability to be self-motivated and function autonomously
  4. Flexibility in coping with organisational change and demonstrated capacity to be innovative in clinical approaches with young people
  5. Demonstrated commitment to clinical supervision and ongoing professional development for own practice as well as staff development
  6. Commitment to developing and engaging in any workforce development strategies
  7. Experience in, and ability to lead and manage a clinical team
  8. Ability to use relevant information technology, electronic recording systems and data management tools

  • Be willing to undertake a Working with Children Check and a separate Criminal History check;
  • Have demonstrated experience providing services to young people aged 12-25 years of age;
