headspace Broken Hill is operated by Flourish Australia. All headspace centres are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. Administration of funding is carried out by the headspace centre’s local Primary Health Network, in this case, Western NSW PHN.

headspace Broken Hill is a free and confidential service where young people between the ages of 12 and 25 can access friendly youth mental health professionals. headspace Broken Hill offers a range of services for young people who are experiencing a tough time or are worried about their mental health.

We provide access to services such as counselling, employment and training, further educational support, alcohol and drug support, and general health.

Doctor (GP)

GPs can help with any physical health issues as well as issues related to sexual health, drug or alcohol use, relationship problems or feeling down or upset. Your centre may have a GP on site or links to one locally.

headspace Broken Hill has an exciting opportunity for a Youth Peer Worker to help support a new dynamic team.
This position is part-time (0.6 FTE), working on a rotating roster which will include weekends, evening and night shifts.

About the Opportunity

As a Youth Peer Worker, you will help orient young people to the centre and help them complete the initial assessment, as well as support young people pursuing their individual recovery goals. On a day-to-day basis, you will be required to:

  • Listen to young people and create opportunities and activities that meet their interests and goals.
  • Ensure that individual support is provided that meets young people's recovery journey goals and is strengths based and led by the person wherever possible.
  • Be ‘hands on’ and involved in direct service delivery.

Youth Peer Workers are required to use their lived experience of a mental health issue and personal recovery openly, appropriately and effectively to build professional relationships with the young people they support that also experience a mental health issue.

To be considered, you will have:

  • Entry level for graduates with a relevant degree in behavioural sciences or human services; or
  • A relevant associate diploma or certificate qualification with relevant experience; or
  • At least 1-years relevant experience in mental health attained through previous appointments
  • A current Australian drivers licence

Successful applicants will be appointed subject to a national criminal record, Australian residency and working with children checks and checks with suitable work referees.

Referrals can be made by calling us on 02 9393 9669 from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, or by completing the referral form. Referral forms can be faxed to us on 08 8088 4947 or emailed at headspace.brokenhill@flourishaustralia.org.au. We also accept referrals from doctors/GPs via a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), which can also be either emailed or faxed to us using the above details.

The services provided have a health promotion and education focus. We deliver these services to promote positive mental health and wellbeing.
