About the job
  
As a First Nations Social and Emotional Wellbeing Coordinator, you will provide strength-based, culturally safe support and mentoring to young people and families from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds requiring mental health support.
  
This is a newly developed role within a brand-new program seeking to reduce stigma and identify and address barriers that may impact on young, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people’s engagement to access mental health care.
  
Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager you will:

• Provide culturally informed care by supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and families/carers, ensuring their voices are central in care planning, referrals, and service engagement.
• Contribute to assessment, treatment planning, and social and emotional wellbeing support, while promoting cultural consultation opportunities for staff and embedding cultural perspectives in clinical decision-making.
• Co-design, deliver, and oversee First Nations programs, including groups, community workshops, and events, while coordinating program evaluation and continuous improvement.
• Provide leadership and operational support to First Nations team members, including facilitating wellbeing meetings, program evaluations, report writing, and liaising with the Clinical Services Manager.
• Build and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and local communities to enhance pathways, referrals, and awareness of headspace services.

Skills and experience
  
The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

• Certificate IV in Aboriginal Health Care Practice, or other relevant post- secondary qualifications in Health, such as Certificate IV in Mental Health, Youth Work or Community Development.
• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background and demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people and their families.
• Sensitivity to experiences that Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people may have had; this may include difficulties in their social and emotional wellbeing; physical health problems; difficult family experiences; or challenges with work and study.
• A sound knowledge of local Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander communities and relevant organisations.
• Capacity to develop effective working relationships, collaborations and partnerships with a range of services within the broader community service system, particularly ACCOs.

First Nations Family Peer Workers are a committed to supporting families and carers of First Nations young people seeking support at headspace services. They draw on their lived experience of identity and cultural connection to engage directly with First Nations families and offer empathic listening, provide support, information and connection.

This is a newly developed role within a brand-new program seeking to reduce stigma and identify and address barriers that may impact on young, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people’s engagement to access mental health care.
  
Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager you will:

• Support First Nations families and carers through culturally safe, non-clinical peer work that values lived experience and promotes engagement with headspace.
• Provide information, psychoeducation, and empathic listening, using intentional peer support frameworks and Family Peer Work principles.
• Advocate for the voice of families in service planning and delivery, offering drop-in, appointment-based, and outreach support via face-to-face, phone, or video.
• Build relationships with families, communities, and stakeholders by co-facilitating workshops, events, and family-inclusive activities.
• Contribute to service development, program evaluation, team collaboration, and accurate documentation, while promoting a safe and inclusive workplace culture.

• Lived experience as a First Nations family member.

• Capacity to share own lived experience in a meaningful, appropriate and considered way.
• Confidence and ability to approach families and work collaboratively with a wide range of people.

About the job
  
Allied Health Practitioners (AHPs) provide private practice services and high quality, evidence-based interventions to young people aged 12-25. The AHPs are those eligible to use Medicare services including clinical psychologists, general psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists.
  
Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager you will:

• Act as a private practitioner with support from the headspace team and other providers offering a range of specialist services.
• Offer a range of specialist services depending on your qualifications and experience, including general health care, sexual health care, psycho-social support, family support, AOD counselling, vocational support, and a variety of therapeutic and recreational/ social groups.
• Access primary and secondary consultation and psychiatric review from the headspace clinical team, including our senior clinicians, psychiatric registrar and private consultant psychiatrists.

Positions available across all 5 headspace sites; Melton, Werribee, Sunshine, Glenroy and Craigieburn.
  
Skills and experience
  
The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:

• Approved tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, occupational therapy and current registration with appropriate professional body (AHPRA/AASW).
• Eligibility to provide Medicare Benefits Schedule service and \professional indemnity insurance.
• Minimum of two years of experience in the assessment, diagnosis and provision of evidence-based treatments of mental health disorders and preferably youth, including knowledge, experience, understanding and passion for the health and wellbeing of young people
• Sound knowledge of and demonstrated experience in clinical practice and therapeutic interventions within the mental health field, including mental health disorders across the developmental stages of young people and the impact that this has on their development and the impact on the family/significant others.
