The Governor-General said both he and Lady Cosgrove had long admired the work that headspace does for 12 to 25 years olds across the country.
“Over more than a decade headspace has helped hundreds of thousands of young Australians with various mental health worries,” he said. “It is a privilege to come here today to mark both National Mental Health Week and to meet a few of those young people, and members of the dedicated headspace staff.”
headspace CEO Jason Trethowan said it was an honour to welcome the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove to one of headspace’s 100 centres.
“For young people who come to headspace and for our hard-working staff, a visit from the Governor-General is a huge boost for morale and it draws attention to the ongoing and vital work we are doing across the headspace network.”
Ella Symonds, 24, a headspace Adelaide youth ambassador, led the centre tour for Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove.
“It’s so important that all Australians are engaged with the conversation around mental health, I am so happy to continue that conversation with the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove,” she said.
