FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS..

What kind of things can you help me with?

headspace can help you with: Mental Health, Sexual health, Drug and Alcohol, Relationships, Employment and support around Education. We also have really great Doctors who can help you with any medical concerns you may have.

How old do I have to be?

headspace provides services to young people between the ages of 12 and 25.

Do my parents need to come with me?

Although we feel it’s great if parents can come and support you, we also understand this may be difficult sometimes for many reasons. Therefore your parents don’t have to attend headspace with you. You may want to bring someone else that can you feel comfortable with, or you can also attend by yourself if you chose to.

How much does it cost?

Woohoo….headspace is covered by Medicare so it won’t cost you a thing!

Do I need a referral to come?

No you don’t.  You can simply call us and make an appointment if you are between the ages of 12 and 25.

Do you tell people what I say?

At headspace we take your privacy very seriously and anything you say to us is confidential.  This means that anything said between yourself and your worker stays within the headspace team.  If your information needs to be given to other people or organisations we will ask you for your permission to speak with others.  The only time we would talk to someone else without your permission is if you tell us that you are going to hurt yourself, or someone else or if we are required by law. Keeping you and other people safe is our main concern.

What’s the process?

Once you have made an appointment you will see an our Access team member who will ask you a couple of questions about yourself and what’s happening for you at the moment. This first meeting helps us to understand what you want and how we can assist you better.  If you would then like to see someone for further counseling or assistance around different areas, we will make the appointments with you.

How do I make an appointment?

Making an appointment is easy! You can phone to make an appointment (07 5509 5900), walk in off the street (126 Scarborough Street, Southport) or get some else to make one for you!
