headspace Hawthorn doors are open

Now open headspace Hawthorn is surrounded by one of the highest concentrations of students in Australia and within a vibrant inner city location in Melbourne.

headspace is an exciting initiative designed to increase the access and use of health and other services for young people (12 - 25 yrs). Using an early intervention approach, headspace tailors a "wrap-around" service model specifically to meet the needs of young people at risk of developing mental illness, substance use disorders or other issues.

While the Boroondara area is reconised as an area of relatively good health there is a higher percentage of hospital admissions for drug and alcohol issues and self-harm in adolescents than the Victorian average.

headspace Hawthorn will bring together a variety of agencies that target young people in the inner east Melbourne region including health, training, housing and employment services in a youth appropriate and friendly environment.

Inner East Community Health Service and lead organisation  for headspace Hawthorn has been working in partnership with the City of Boroondara to build the facility which will co locate with the cities new youth service hub.

Independent Chair of headspace Hawthorn Greg Murray from Swinburne University stated that "with one in four young people experiencing a mental health issue at some time in their life this new centre will help local young people access and navigate the services they need and reduce the stigma of mental health and seeking support".

headspace Hawthorn is excited and proud to join the growing number of headspace centre's across the country delivering this much needed initiative.
