Ayla was a young person accessing the headspace Ipswich Work and Study Program for assistance in securing employment. Having faced challenges in a previous position, Ayla had difficulties in identifying a more suitable role.

Hear what Ayla had to say about her experience with the Work and Study Program.

How has headspace Ipswich supported you along your mental health journey?

headspace Ipswich has supported my mental health journey by providing the support, tools and techniques to deal with my mental health, I’ve grown a lot since coming to headspace and have improved greatly.

While participating in the Work & Study program at headspace Ipswich, which activities have helped you secure employment?

The activity that helped me the most was the mock interview. I was very nervous with job interviews and always froze when it came to questions potential employers would ask, doing the mock interview and getting feedback from it really helped with my confidence and how to answer the questions. After the mock interview I was able gain employment at the first job interview I had!

What kind of employment have you been able to secure?

I was employed at Ipswich CPL (choice, passion, life) as a permanent part time disability support worker.

How have you found your transition into the workforce?

At first it was a bit rough, going from basically not working at all to almost full time hours. But with the support of the people at headspace, I was able to quickly find working the hours a lot easier.

What interests you most about the industry of support work?

Making a difference in someone's life. Being able to help them live their lives to the best and fullest, is the most rewarding and interesting part of my job.

What would you say to someone that is thinking about joining the Work and Study program?
